一 | Colombo, Oct 20 (UNI) A prominent Sri Lankan Buddhist monk has alleged that a majority of politicians and government officials in the country are corrupt. The Island newspaper on Thursday reported that Mahanayaka of Asgiriya Chapter Ven Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera expressed his opinion to a delegation of Sri Lankan Airline employees who called on him on Wednesday. The monk accused the politicians and senior government officials of neglecting their duty towards the country. He said that most of them were corrupt, and that the national assets and public funds were in danger due to poor administration and corruption. The monk was quoted as saying that "the majority of politicians had been instrumental in destroying the country and not developing it. He pointed out that fraud, corruption and malpractices were the order of the day... "Thera said every government that came into power on the promise to protect national assets had done the opposite for personal gains."
