The animals have been sighted in the Ruwanpura and Kudagama areas near Hatton town, the Daily Mirror reported.
"People in these villages claim that leopards often stray into their areas and that they are gripped with the fear of being attacked," it said.
Several dogs and chicken have disappeared, and it is suspected that these would have been hunted by the mountain leopards, it added.
UNI MR。（东二飞 供图）本报讯（记者 曾嫣艳 通讯员崔博闻）9月11日上午，接福建RCC险情信息，在东山岛东侧约120公里海域，“南澳渔88207”轮上一渔民作业时不慎被缆绳打断腿部，失血昏迷，情况危急。交通运输部东海救助局立刻指令东海第二救助飞行队执行救助任务。接到任务后，在厦门高崎机场待命的“B-7345”机组在做好飞行评估和各项准备后，第一时间出动救援。考虑到伤员腿骨断裂，大量出血，已出现昏迷症状，随时有生命危险，机组决定，在接到伤员后直飞厦门大学附属翔安医院救治。上午10时27分，“B-7345”救助直升机从厦门高崎机场火速赶赴现场。经过近一小时航路飞行及目标搜寻，机组于11时24分发现目标渔船，通过绞车吊运的方式，先后将受伤渔民和1名陪同人员接至机舱，并开始返航。
